SIX is an alternative extension of the SIXEL bitmap graphics format. It was developed for terminals and printers by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). SIX actually means six pixels of which an image stored in the format consists. This format is used to store background images in uncompressed form in the X Windows System user interface for remote server maintenance. It stores a 'dump' or screenshot of the window or background of the client program.
