This is a file format for storing projects in the GIMP image editor. It supports the storage of vector and bitmap graphics, layers, guides, selections, and channels that are saved in an XCF project in a compressed form but without loss of quality. JBIG is a standard for lossless compression of image formats. Despite the fact that it was initially developed for fax machines, it can be easily used for other types of images. Files saved in the JBIG format are smaller in comparison with the other industry standard formats like G3 or G4.
