This is an expansion of the PostScript programming language that’s often used in the publishing business. It was developed in 1982 by Adobe Systems. PS also contains print coordinates for objects on a page.

This bitmap image format was created for storing images taken in HDR mode, which provides a high dynamic contrast ratio. It may have either a 32- or 16-bit pixel structure. It is used for high-quality graphics with rich bitmap images, with or without lossy compression.
