JBG is a lossless format used to store both black and white, and color images. It was developed by JBIG (Joint Bi-level Image Experts Group) for compressing pictures to send by fax but can also be used quite effectively on other images. JPE is an extension used as an optional alternative for JPEG images. It is usually used by digital cameras. For example, some Sony cameras are able to save a high quality JPG image along with the low-res copy in JPE for sending via email.
