Type42 was based on the PostScript language for displaying TrueType fonts. It allows for printing all TrueType fonts on PostScript printers and allows for rasterization when displayed. JBIG is a standard for lossless compression of image formats. Despite the fact that it was initially developed for fax machines, it can be easily used for other types of images. Files saved in the JBIG format are smaller in comparison with the other industry standard formats like G3 or G4.
