HEIC is a file extension that Apple uses for the HEIF image format, which are usually coded by HEVC codec (High Efficiency Video Compression). This format is great for Live Photos because it can contain an image sequence. This format was created by Nokia for use in its proprietary phones. A bitmap image was used to transfer image files between devices over a wireless connection. It was mainly used when exchanging multimedia text messages that support inserting pictures.
