This format was developed to simplify use of Type1-fonts in some software. It’s 8-bit and so it’s quickly processed by programs and it has a compact structure. PFB contains additional metadata. AVIF is the youngest, but most efficient and advanced codec for image compression. AVIF file size is 10 times smaller than JPEG with the same image quality. AVIF supports not only Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) images but also High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Wide Color Gamut (WCG). It can store both image items and image sequences. AVIF is a HEIF conformant format. Netflix has published the first AVIF image in 2018, but still only a few software support it.
