This format was developed to simplify use of Type1-fonts in some software. It’s 8-bit and so it’s quickly processed by programs and it has a compact structure. PFB contains additional metadata. ICO is a file of this format usually contains a small image icons of different resolutions (16x16, 32x32, 64x64 pixels) and various color depths (16 colors, 32, 64, 128, 256, 16-bit, and so on).
