It consists of a set of two-character encoding which determines the allocation of starting points in the plotter. JBIG is a standard for lossless compression of image formats. Despite the fact that it was initially developed for fax machines, it can be easily used for other types of images. Files saved in the JBIG format are smaller in comparison with the other industry standard formats like G3 or G4.
