This is a format for storing and presenting text information. It’s also referred to as CID 2 and is basically used for imaging and creating complex fonts in PDF. Type42 was based on the PostScript language for displaying TrueType fonts. It allows for printing all TrueType fonts on PostScript printers and allows for rasterization when displayed.
