This is a file format for storing projects in the GIMP image editor. It supports the storage of vector and bitmap graphics, layers, guides, selections, and channels that are saved in an XCF project in a compressed form but without loss of quality. It is the analogue of PSD for the Photoshop software.

This is a file used for creating line plots in the form of vector images. They include text objects, splines, forms, arcs, lines and arrows. It can contain a set of colors, images and sketches. It was initially developed for the Xfig drawing program, but today it’s used in other drawing editors.
